The Rev. Dr. Stephen J. Carter graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis with an M. Div. in 1966 and STM in 1967. He also has a BA from Concordia Senior College (1962) and a DMin from United Theological Seminary, Dayton (1984). As an ordained Lutheran pastor, he served as a parish pastor in the Midwest for 15 years and a seminary professor and administrator at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, IN for five years before joining Concordia Publishing House for 15 years, first as vice-president of the editorial division and then as president. He has authored six books, including two daily devotional books, plus several adult Bible studies. Currently, he is writing a Christian Living Book for Concordia Publishing House to be released in January, 2012 on the theme: Living With Passion in the Word of Christ. Dr. Carter teaches a LifeLight Bible Study on Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood , MO where he served as interim senior pastor in 2006.

He and his wife, Gail, have three children and seven grandchildren.
